Navigation systems have become factory options from almost every manufacturer these days, and some owners mod them to watch movies or play video games. But Mercedes-Benz and Bosch have teamed up to offer a splitview navigation monitor for the Mercedes S-class. It will feature an eight inch screen that will display two images on the same monitor thanks to a new adjacent pixel technology. The driver will be able to see a navigation screen as well as command controls and the passenger can watch movies and can use headphones as to not distract the driver. The movies sound can be listened via the cars stereo speakers as well. This new luxury feature will be available on the Mercedes S-Class in the summer of 2009.
In future Mercedes-Benz is equipping its luxury class models as the first premium brand with a display screen that allows the driver and front passenger to view two different programmes at the same time. While the driver is checking the navigation instructions, the front passenger can sit back and watch a film on the very same display. This is made possible by new SPLITVIEW technology which the Stuttgart premium brand is introducing in the S-Class for the first time.
