BMW usually makes an M version of their vehicles, and after saying they wouldn’t, they will now make an M version of the 1-series. The new twin-turbo I6 M1 is rumored to have 350HP under the hood, and we’re sure there’s quite a bit of potential for more. Autocar says that the new M1 will be released sometime next year and has already been in development. The new M1 is said to include a a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, an M-designed differential, improved suspension and cool new body work.
We at TheRaceLine are also tech junkies, today the new iPhone OS 3.1 was announced by Apple. And with a new OS update usually comes a new jailbreak update. Well the Dev-Team announced that they have a iPhone 3.1 Jailbreak on the way as well. Be sure not to update to the new iTunes 9 if you plan on jailbreaking your iPhone however, as you may lose your ultrasn0w unlock. The Dev-Team did say that their PwnageTool will work with the new iPhone 3.1 jailbreak however. Be sure to click no when iTunes asks you to update, stay tuned for the official iPhone 3.1 jailbreak from the Dev-Team.
From Dev-Team blog:
“This week Apple will be all over the news with their announcements at Wednesday’s “Let’s Rock” event. But with so many new owners of the iPhone 3GS, and with so many new owners of the iPhone 3G (perhaps sold to them by these new 3GS owners)…now is a good time to send out this general advisory.
If you update to Apple’s new software using the normal iTunes process, you will lose your ultrasn0w unlock. In fact you may lose it permanently, because for most people the baseband firmware cannot be reverted to a previous version (unlike the main application CPU firmware).
But don’t worry…our PwnageTool program lets you update your main firmware without touching your baseband firmware, so you can still have the best of both worlds. But you must be diligent about saying “no” to your iTunes request this week to update your firmware.”
I’ve never really paid attention to racing simulator screen shots that the video companies release (from both GT and Forza), because it’s usually not how the game looks while you’re playing it. Game play, physics and track and car selection is what interest me. Screen shots from the new Forza 3 were released a while back, now it looks like the first screen shots of the new, and long awaited, Gran Turismo 5 are here. The shots seem to be menu pictures, no game play or cinema shots, but it still looks pretty darn good. The shots show the Japanese Super GT-spec Nismo GT-R in all it’s hot JDM glory.
There’s been a lot of PS3 news lately, with the new PS3 Slim and GT5. Gran Turismo fans can be proud, the (arguably) best racing simulator game franchise is making a comeback. GT5 is said to have 1000 cars, damage rendering and rollover crashes. You can also import your favorite replay footage to YouTube.

This past Saturday August 22, 2009 was the 7th annual Cord Feed Run classic car show and cruise in Chino, California. The classic car show and cruise featured pre 1972 cars, trucks, hot rods and motorcycles from all around Southern California. The event was held at the Chino City Hall, around the city hall lawn as well as the surrounding streets. It was classic cars and motorcycles for a few blocks during the bright and sunny California summer weekend. The event also featured a raffle and trophy ceremony with all proceeds going to local charities for children and seniors. Check out the images from the event in the gallery after the break.
Most car guys would love to date a hottie that was also into turning wrenches a much as us, unfortunately a perfect woman like that is far and few between. 37drift on YouTube seems like one of those perfect girls, she’s gorgeous, knows her cars, and installs her own aftermarket parts! Here she is on YouTube installing a Megan Racing Axle-back exhaust on her Infiniti G37 coupe. Yeah I had to watch it over a few times too.
I love watching Blu-rays on my PS3 and Panasonic HDTV, well it looks like car guys will be able to enjoy hi-def picture quality in their cars. Panasonic in Japan just released their new in-car Blu-ray players. The Panasonic CY-BB1000D is the first in-car Blu-ray player and it comes with an HDMI input, 7-inch screen display with 1280×720 resolution. It also supports Bonus View content with Blu-rays that are compatible.
The player is rated at 50W through four channels and also has an SD card slot that allows users to view AVCHD-encoded H.264 movies from camcorders. It also plays DVDs and has 5.1-channel audio support and Dolby TrueHD as well as DTS-HD surround sound. What makes the new Panasonic Blu-ray player even cooler is the built-in 80GB hard drive to store music and movies.
And if that is not cool enough it also includes a USB cable to connect your iPods and iPhones to play through the device, as wel as Bluetooth to sync your headsets and cellphones to. The two Panasonic Blu-ray players will go for $1,060 and $3,874 in Japan. No word on when it come to the USA.
